UK regulator Ofcom has published a consultation on continuing existing price protections for BT landline-only customers. The consultation closes on 21 January 2021, with Ofcom expecting to publish its final decision in March 2021.
In April 2018, BT reduced its monthly line rental for landline-only customers (without broadband) from GBP 18.99 to GBP 11.99. It also capped any overall increases to line rental/call charges to inflation (CPI) for three years, with this ending at end-March 2021. BT has committed to continuing this protection for a further five years, with Ofcom proposing to accept this commitment.
