No foul play in Tamil serial actor’s death, say cops quoting autopsy team

K Chitra
CHENNAI: The doctors who performed an autopsy on the body of video jockey and television actress K Chitra have confirmed that it was a suicide and there was no foul play in her death, police said quoting doctors.
Two doctors including doctor Sivakumar conducted the autopsy in the presence of police at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital on Thursday. Later, police handed over the body to her family.
Police said the injury on her chin was caused after she attempted to release the noose which gripped her neck. “We have found the traces of her skin in her nail,” said an investigation officer. While browsing her mobile, the investigators found she had sent the messages to her mother that ‘he (Hemnath) is my husband, and I can not give him up’.
Meanwhile, Chitra’s mother Vijaya Kamaraj told media that ‘her daughter was beaten to death by her son-in-law Hemnath’. She also demanded that police conduct a fair investigation and ensure justice to her daughter. Hemnath told police that Chitra, who had been shooting for a TV serial at EVP Film City in Nazarethpet, returned to their hotel room around 2.30am and informed him that she would go for a bath.
He told the investigators that he came out and was waiting outside. Later, he knocked on the doors, and there was no response. He informed the hotel staff.Hotel employee Ganesh accompanied him to the room. Using an alternative key, they entered the room and found Chitra hanging from the ceiling. She used her sari to commit suicide.
Police have summoned and questioned a few actors and actresses who worked with Chitra.
