Kabul:
The Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS), the country's intelligence agency, has arrested multiple suspects over the murder of a female journalist in Jalalabad city, officials said on Friday.
On Thursday, Malalai Miwand and her driver were shot dead by unidentified gunmen, reports Xinhua news agency.
The victims had worked for a private radio-TV station in Jalalabad, the capital city of Nangarhar province.
The officials from the provincial government said in a statement that the suspects were arrested hours after the murder.
Without giving the exact number of the arrested persons, the officials said that they "have confessed to their crime, with more investigation underway".
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
At least 10 Afghan journalists and media workers have so far been killed this year in Afghanistan, according to official sources.
Miwand is the second journalist to be killed in Afghanistan since mid-November.
On November 12, another journalist, Alyas Dayee was killed in a bomb blast in Helmand province.
