State Government to convene one-day session of the Upper House

Bengaluru, Dec 11(UNI) Karnataka State Government announced on Friday that it planned to convene a one-day session of the Karnataka Legislative Council to get the controversial Cow Slaughter (prevention) Bill, passed, however this was thwarted by the adjournment of the house abruptly by the Council Chairman, Pratap Chandra Shetty.
Speaking to newsmen here on Friday, Chief minister B S Yediyurappa said that the convening of the one-day session of the Council had been taken to ensure passage of the Bill.
Informing that originally it was decided to continue the Council Session till December 17 and discuss various issues as well as passing of several bills, including that of Cow Slaughter (Prevention) Bill, he said that "The Council Chairman had adjourned the house sine die, abruptly".
Criticising the Chairman's action as arbitrary the chief minister charged that the Chairman is not cooperating with the state government to bring amendment to the bill, and said that "We have also plans to promulgate ordinance to give legal effect to the bill, which had already been passed by the Assembly".
Meanwhile, a five-member BJP delegation including the Upper House Leader Kota Srinivasa Poojary met
Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Wala and petitioned against the Council Chairman, Pratap Chandra Shetty for
adjourning the house abruptly.
The Delegation also appealed to the Karnataka Governor to initiate action against the Council Chairman on the issue.
