NBA 2020-21: The NBA offseason was very tight. We had the trade moratorium period lifted on the 16th November, NBA Draft on the 18th November, NBA Free Agency on the 20th November, and the training camps from the 1st of December. Here are 5 things you probably missed in the NBA offseason 2020.
NBA Trade Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers emerging as the most likely destination for James Harden
The renovated Philadelphia 76ers
Ex-Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was part of the journey from Houston. He quit and took the job with the Philadelphia 76ers. He acquired players to make their shooting better around rising stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
Morey sent out Al Horford and Josh Richardson in favor of Danny Green and Seth Curry.
Philadelphia also added Dwight Howard to add depth to his roster. He will also help take some minutes from their star big man Joel Embiid.
The Sixers were one of the league’s biggest failures last season. They slumped to sixth in the Eastern Conference standings before getting cleaned in the first round by the Boston Celtics.
Hawks made moves in the free agency
The Atlanta Hawks started free agency with more cap space than anyone in a year when few teams had money to spend. They pursued and secured two of the biggest-name free agents: Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdanovic.
Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk also signed Rajon Rondo away from the Lakers to mentor Young and Kris Dunn to bring some defensive potential.
All that may not be enough to secure a playoff spot, but it puts the Hawks in the discussion for one of the Eastern Conference’s final two playoff spots, along with the Wizards, Pacers, and Magic.
NBA News 2020-21: Bradley Beal and Caris LeVert sign endorsement deals with Jordan
Detroit Pistons did not have any idea in the NBA Offseason
In desperate need of young talent, point guard Killian Hayes was picked at the seventh pick, and Weaver acquired two more top-20 picks, which he used on Isaiah Stewart and Saddiq Bey. Then, Detroit’s offseason went off the rails.
The Pistons opened free agency by overcompensating middling center Mason Plumlee and signing apprentice center Jahlil Okafor. This after drafting Stewart and trading for Tony Bradley to play the same position.
The Pistons also overpaid to make Jerami Grant a fundamental option in an offense with oft-injured vets Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose.
The Pistons also used their training camp invite on LiAngelo Ball, the forgotten brother of Lonzo and LaMelo.
