A 24-year-old youth was brutally murdered while another severely injured in a clash that broke out late Wednesday night at Rajiv Colony in Sector 17.

This is the second such incident at Rajiv Colony in 15 days. On November 27, a 30-year-old man was killed and another severely injured in a knife attack by a resident of colony over old enmity.

According to an FIR, the incident happened when the victim, Sagar, a resident of Rajiv Colony, and his friend, Mannu (25), were on their way back home around 12:20 am. Three persons, identified as Arun, Rahul and Munna, entered into an altercation with them.

Mannu told the police that Arun took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Sagar in the stomach.

“He then took a beer bottle and hit me on the head with it. He attacked me with the knife. As I tried to save myself, my hand got slashed,” the complainant stated. The two friends ran for their lives. However, the assailants blocked their way a few lanes ahead and hit both again. “As I cried for help, Sagar fell on the ground. The assailants fled the scene when Sagar’s brother, Aakash, and two others reached there,” said the complainant.

The duo was then taken to the Civil Hospital where Sagar was declared brought dead. Mannu, who suffered grievous injuries in his hand and leg, has been referred to the PGI.

A case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (act committed by more than one person) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 14 police station. No arrests were made when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, demanding justice for their son, Sagar’s family protested outside the Sector 16 police post.
