Proximus is planning to more than halve the floor space at its headquarters in Brussels. According to a notice sent to project developers, seen by L'Echo, the Belgian operator wants to reduce the space used to 40,000 m2 from the current 105,000 m2. The plan is to find new occupants for its dual-tower building in the North business district in Brussels.
CEO Guilaumme Boutin earlier confirmed the company was looking at scaling back in the coming years. The company will either rent a new, smaller space elsewhere in Brussels and sell the existing building, or vacate much of the premises so it can be renovated for other users. The towers are already 25 years old and in need of renovation.
The building was already too large for the around 6,000 employees, and this has become more evident during the pandemic, when nearly all staff are working from home. In the company's new strategy, employees will be able to work from home still three days a week, while also using satellite offices more. The headquarters will be much smaller, operating more as a campus to support interaction between employees and with customers.
