Woman ends life, husband held

Ludhiana: The police have arrested Gulshan Kumar of Bulala Colony in Gobindgarh village, who has been charged under Section 306, IPC, after his wife Meera committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on December 8. In this regard, a complaint was filed with the police by Sugreev Mishra of LIG flats in Jamalpur, who told the police that the suspect, a tenant of his friend Akhilesh, used to mentally and physically torture his wife, who was forced to take the extreme step. Dowry case: Man, mother booked

Ludhiana: Joginder Singh, his mother Tara Devi, both residents of Prem Nagar, Dehradun, were booked under Sections 406 and 498-A on the complaint of Maneesha, wife of Joginder and resident of Fatehgarh Mohalla. The woman had charged her husband and mother-in-law for causing mental and physical harassment for bringing in less dowry during her marriage, which was solemnised in February 2016. OC

TWO MINOR GIRLS MISSING

Ludhiana: Two minor girls, aged 17 and 14, and residing in Shamsher Nagar in Haibowal and Ayali Kalan, respectively, were reported missing by their parents. Chet Ram, a resident of Shamsher Nagar, lodged a complaint with the police that his daughter, aged 17, had been missing from the morning of December 8. The girl had gone somewhere without telling her whereabouts and had not returned home since then. A case has been registered. Another 14-year-old girl had gone missing from her residence in Ayali Kalan since December 7. One Ramu Kaura had, in a complaint to the police, said that the girl had gone out without telling anyone about her whereabouts. The police have registered a case. TNS

1 booked for sexual assault

Ludhiana: The police booked Satish Kumar, a resident of Santokh Nagar here, under Section 354 of the IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act for allegedly making sexual advances towards a 16-year-old girl of the same colony. The mother of the victim, said the accused, who had already served a jail sentence, used to stalk the girl. “On December 7, the accused approached the girl in a drunken state and made indecent advances towards her. When the girl raised an alarm, the accused fled from the scene,” said the mother. TNS

2 held with 12-kg poppy husk

Ludhiana: The police have nabbed two drug peddlers, Major Singh, a resident of Booth Garh, and Gurpreet Singh of Mundian Khurd, and charged them under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act after 12 kg of poppy husk was seized from their possession. A police patrol party, deployed at Hawas Cut, conducted a raid after a tip-off and arrested the duo from Boothgarh village with contraband. OC

Five booked for assault

Ludhiana: Kulwinder Singh, Harshit Bajaj, Ankush Bajaj and Raja Ram and an unknown accomplice of them were booked by the police under Sections 323, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC for an alleged assault on a grocer, Sanjay Kumar, his sons Satyam Sharma and Raghav Sharma, all residents of Tagore Nagar. The complainant said the suspects attacked and beat them up in front of the Gill Guest House in Tagore Nagar on the night of December 9 after their dispute with a Nepali worker employed at the grocery store. Six held for gambling

Ludhiana: The police have arrested six persons, Titu, a resident of Jawahar Nagar Camp, Rubal Thukral, Parveen Kumar, both residents of New Adarsh Nagar, Madan Lal of Abdullapur Basti, Sarbjit Singh and Manmohan Singh of Azad Nagar, under the Gambling Act. TNS
