PUDUCHERRY: Police booked an advocate and three others on charges of voyeurism based on a complaint by a woman doctor working as an assistant professor in a private medical college hospital in Puducherry.
Police said more than three-fourth of the families residing at an apartment in the town limits had registered their objection over the presence of CCTV cameras in lifts and on the terrace in the apartment complex. They pointed out that the apartment complex had a sufficient number of CCTV cameras at vantage locations for safety measures but the cameras in lifts and on terrace infringed their privacy.
Moreover, the display monitors of CCTV cameras that have to be kept in common places for the view of the residents have been kept in the house of the legal advisor of the association, Subramanian.
Police said the doctor lodged a complaint accusing Subramanian of constantly bullying and stalking women and threatening and harassing all residents in the complex, thereby instilling fear among all. She also accused association president Sittaramane, secretary Anand and an unidentified resident of colluding with the advocate and compromising on the safety of the women in the complex. She said women lived with fear and insecurity in the complex.
The Lawspet police booked the advocate and three others under sections 294 (b) (obscene acts and songs) and 354 C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code and began an investigation.
