PM to address global climate summit on Dec 12

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the global climate summit on

December, 12, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar, said here on Friday.

'The Paris Climate Agreement will complete five years on December 12. The Prime Minister will address the Global Climate Summit to be held on this occasion,' Mr Javadekar said.

Addressing a press conference on the eve of completion of five years of the historic Paris Agreement on

Climate Change Mr Javadekar said, 'Climate change is not a result of recent actions but of historical actions, The US has 25 per cent and EU has 22 per cent of historical emissions whereas India has 3 per cent.'

'We had committed to reducing emission intensity of GDP by 33-35 per cent by 2030 of which we have already achieved 21 per cent. The remaining will be achieved in next 10 years,' he said.

India is one of the few countries which are Paris Agreement compliant, he said.

'Our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) will lead to less than 2 degrees rise in temperature, ' he said.

and added that according to the Climate Transparency Report 2020, India is the only G20 country to meet its commitments.

The recent report by the UNEP also says that India's emissions grew 1.4 per cent in 2019, much lower than

the average of 3.3 per cent per year over last decade, he said.
