MUMBAI: State home minister Anil Deshmukh, who ordered a probe into the complaints that Taloja jail authorities had refused to accept a package that contained spectacles for jailed activistGautam Navlakha(70), said on social media, “Gautam Navlakha (was) denied spectacles by jail authorities as they refused to accept (a) parcel sent by his family. I have ordered an inquiry into this matter.”
HC too had stressed on need for humanity
Earlier this week, Bombay high court had taken note that jail authorities were refusing to accept the package sent by Navlakha’s family. Observing that “humanity is most important”, it had stressed the need to sensitise prison staff.
