Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that most Apple employees will not return to work until June. In a virtual town hall meeting with the employees on Thursday, Cook shared that his staff would not be back before June 2021. Most tech companies including Facebook, Twitter, and Google had shared their plans of letting their employees work from home until June at least.
Talking about his plans to let staff work from home till June, Cook said, "There's no replacement for face-to-face collaboration, but we have also learned a great deal about how we can get our work done outside of the office without sacrificing productivity or results. All of these learnings are important. When we're on the other side of this pandemic, we will preserve everything that is great about Apple while incorporating the best of our transformations this year."
As per Bloomberg, Cook also said that due to challenges faced by employees because of the COVID pandemic, Apple will give employees in many regions a paid holiday for January 4. Google too had introduced a similar policy for its employees. The company also gave an extra paid off to its employees.
So far companies including Facebook, Google and Amazon among others have directed their employees to work from home at least till June 2021. The date can be extended if need be.
Earlier in August, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said during a town hall meeting that employees can continue working from home till June. "We're going to allow people to request to be a permanent remote worker at some point. And they don't have to make that decision right now, obviously. We already announced that people can remotely work through the end of 2020 if they want. And if COVID is still prevalent, it's possible that that extends beyond that. But on a long-term basis, we're going to let people request to work permanently remotely. We're going to focus on experienced employees rather than new college grads, who I think need to be in the office more, for training.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai too had announced that the majority of its employees will work from home till June 30, 2021. "To give employees the ability to plan ahead, we are extending our global voluntary work from home option through June 30, 2021, for roles that don't need to be in the office," Pichai's email obtained by The Verge read.
