Assam NRC Coordinator Hitesh Sarma has said in a December 3 affidavit written to the Guwahati High Court that the list of National Citizen Register (NRC), which came on August 31 last year, is not final. That is the supplementary list. But it has been directed to delete the names of about 4,800 ineligible people involved in it.
Sarma has told the High Court in an affidavit that the names of more than ten thousand people have been wrongly included or removed in the supplementary list of NRC. In the month of August last year, 19 lakh people were excluded from the list of NRC released under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The coordinator of NRC in Assam Hitesh Sarma told the Guwahati High Court that the final list of NRC is yet to be published by the Registrar General of India.
In a December 3 affidavit written to the Guwahati High Court, NRC Coordinator Hitesh Sarma said that the Registrar General of India had not said anything on the publication of the final NRC. On the list which came on 31 August 2019, she said that she was a supplementary NRC.
Let us know that in the list of NRC released under the supervision of the Supreme Court in August last year, 19 lakh people were excluded. The list included about five and a half lakh Hindus and more than 11 lakh Muslims. About 3.3 crore applications for NRC were received by the state government.
NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela then called it the final list of NRC. At the same time, the Assam government, considering the list of NRC wrong, blamed the then NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela for the mistake in it. As many as 19 lakh people excluded from the list of NRC are yet to get the order of eviction, due to which they have not been able to complain against it in the tribunal.
NRC Coordinator Hitesh Sarma said that he has informed the Registrar General of India about the malfunction in the NRC list. No information has been available yet about when the final list of NRC will be released.
