RBI imposes monetary penalty of Rs10 lakh on HDFC Bank for bouncing of SGL

On Sensex, HDFC Bank finished at Rs1385.85 per piece down by Rs20 or 1.42%.

Private lender HDFC Bank on Thursday intimated exchanges about a monetary penalty of Rs10 lakh imposed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

HDFC Bank said, "We wish to inform you that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has vide its letter dated December 4, 2020 (which was received by the Bank on December 9, 2020) imposed a monetary penalty of Rs10 lacs on the Bank for bouncing of SGL which lead to shortage of balance in certain securities in the Bank’s CSGL account on November 19, 2020."

"The Bank has since enhanced its review mechanism so as to ensure that such incidents do not recur," HDFC Bank added.

On Sensex, HDFC Bank finished at Rs1385.85 per piece down by Rs20 or 1.42%.
