Covid claims 7 more lives to take official tally to 318

Imphal, December 09 2020: COVID-19 cases continue to mount in Imphal West even as 7 persons including 4 from the district died due to the disease in the last 24 hours taking the official death toll to 318 .

As many as 51 persons from Imphal West tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The death of an Army Colonel and a 42 year old man from Imphal West are yet to be included in the official list.

The total number of positive cases has reached 26,534 with 138 new infections.

The recovery rate is at 87 percent with a total of 23,301 recovered till today.

The number of active cases is 2,915 .

A report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room issued by Additional Director Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang today said the 7 victims include 4 from Imphal West, 2 from Imphal East and 1 from Bishnupur district.

The 4 from Imphal West include a 56-year-old woman and three men aged 65, 69 and 67.The 2 from Imphal East were men aged 64 and 85 while the victim from Bishnupur was a 78-year-old man.

The deaths were reported from Shija Hospital (1), Raj Medicity (1), RIMS (2) and JNIMS (3).The 138 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours include 16 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and 122 civilians.

The 122 civilians including 65 males and 57 females hail from Imphal West (51), Imphal East (24), Bishnupur (17), Chandel (7), Thoubal (6), Ukhrul (4), Tamenglong (4), Kakching (2), Kangpokpi (2), Senapati (2), Churachandpur (1), Noney (1) and Tengnoupal (1), said the report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room.

As many as 135 were discharged after recovery from COVID-19 Care Centres (CCCs) in the last 24 hours.

While 85 of them recovered while under home isolation, the remaining have been discharged from CCCs opened at RIMS (16), CAPF (8), Shija Hospital (6), UNACCO (3), Raj Medicity (3), RD Wing (3), Thoubal (3), Bishnupur (2), LKK (2), PR School Kakching (2), Tamenglong (1) and Jiribam (1) .

The cumulative number of positive cases is 26,534 including 23,329 civilians and 3,205 Central security personnel.

The total number of recovered cases is 23,301 including 20,375 civilians and 2,926 central security personnel.

The number of active cases is 2,915 including 2,640 civilians and 275 Central security personnel.

The recovery rate stands at 87.81 percent.

Those who tested positive for COVID-19 in Imphal West include 7 locals of Thongam Leikai and 5 of Chingamathak, said sources.
