New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) The Centre on Thursday sought report from the West Bengal government on the security lapses that occurred during BJP national president JP Nadda's ongoing visit to the state, allegedly due to the 'casual approach of the state Police Department'.
The action followed the letter of state BJP Chief Dilip Ghosh, which he wrote to the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday, communicating severe security lapses by the state government.
Mr Nadda was on a two-day tour to Kolkata, as part of the 120-day tour of the state of West Bengal, where the Assembly election is due next year.
Raising security concerns, Mr Ghosh, in his letter to the MHA, said that a mob of over 200 people with sticks and bamboos, demonstrated and raised black flags in front of party office in Kolkata.
Apart from seeking reports from the state government by the Home Ministry, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also condemned the attack on the cavalcade of the BJP Chief in West Bengal and said the Centre has taken cognisance of the matter.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, he said 'Today, the attack on BJP’s national president @JPNadda in Bengal extremely codemnable. The central government is taking this attack very seriously. The Bengal government will have to answer to the peace loving people of the state for this sponsored violence'.
'The era of tyranny, anarchy and darkness under the Trinamool rule has gone out now. The manner in which political violence has been institutionalised and brought to the extreme within West Bengal under TMC rule is sad and worrying for all those who believe in democratic values,' Mr Shah said in another tweet.
Condemning the attack on the BJP president convoy, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that this incident reflects the degrading the law and order situation in the state.
'In a democracy, it is indeed worrying to target political leaders in this way. Given the seriousness of the attack on the convoy of the BJP national president, it should be thoroughly investigated and the responsibility of this incident should be fixed,' Mr Singh tweeted.
