IDC noted that among the muted performance, there was strong demand in certain certain geographical areas, such as in China, where revenues advanced 14.2 percent. There was also very strong demand for certain types of servers, such as those running AMD CPUs, where revenues jumped 112.4 percent. ARM-based servers grew revenues 430.5 percent, albeit on a very small base of revenue, IDC noted.
Looking at vendors, Dell Technologies broke out of its Q2 tie with HPE/New H3C Group, though its market share of revenue slipped to 16.65 percent from 17.12 percent the year before. Second place HPE’s market share also dipped lower, to 15.94 percent from 16.93 percent while third place Inspur/Inspur Power System lifted its share to 9.37 percent from 8.94 percent. Both Lenovo and Huawei inched their share higher to 5.88 percent from 5.39 percent, and to 4.87 percent from 4.15 percent, respectively.
The ODM Direct group of vendors commanded a market share up to 28.03 percent from 26.34 percent, with the rest of the market’s sliding to 19.36 percent from 21.13 percent.
