State Congress president Kumari Selja and senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala joined the farmers’ dharna at the Tikri-Bahadurgarh border on Wednesday. They were, however, not invited to the dais to address the protesters. They sat on the ground among farmers and went back as soon as the dharna concluded at 3.30 pm.
“No political leader is allowed to speak from the dais. So, neither Selja nor Abhay were invited to address the dharna. However, we are grateful to them for extending their support,” said a farmer leader.
Later, Selja told the media the Centre must repeal the three “black laws”. “It is unfortunate that the food provider of our country is compelled to agitate in chilly conditions.”
“History bears testimony to the fact that farmers have brought revolution with their unshakable determination. The BJP government is suppressing their rights. Today, the entire nation stands with them against the three ‘black laws’. The Centre is making every effort to thwart the protest, but the farmers are prudent enough to protest peacefully, she added.

Abhay told the media he came to Tikri as a farmer and to express his solidarity with the protesters, who “have been carrying out the agitation in peacefully”.
“The INLD has been opposing the farm laws from the beginning by terming these as death warrants for farmers. The INLD is the only party which not only flagged the matter in the Vidhan Sabha, but also submitted memorandums in every district demanding a review of the ordinances,” he said, adding party workers had been helping the protesting farmers.
