'One country one ration card' system implemented in nine states

The Finance Ministry said on Wednesday that nine states have implemented the 'one country one ration card' system. Under this, the Center has approved him to raise an additional Rs 23,523 crore. Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, and Tripura have successfully implemented the Public Distribution System (PDS) reforms.

According to a release, Uttar Pradesh has benefited the most from this scheme. It will be able to borrow additional Rs 4,851 crore through a special loan facility.

After this, Karnataka will get an option to raise additional borrowings of Rs 4,509 crore and Gujarat Rs 4,352 crore. The Finance Ministry says that the Department of Food and Public Distribution is the nodal department to certify which state has fulfilled the necessary conditions for reform. The Department of Food and Public Distribution comes under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

The ministry said that states would have to implement the reforms by December 31, 2020, to be eligible for additional borrowing. It is expected that by this time, many other states will also be able to implement the reforms successfully.
