Nz vs WI 2nd Test: New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson doubtful as he leaves team to be with pregnant wife

Nz vs WI 2nd Test – New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson leaves team: New Zealand captain Kane Williamson’s participation in the second Test against West Indies in Wellington is in doubt after he left the squad to be with his pregnant wife on Thursday.

The Black Caps said in a statement that Williamson had flown to Tauranga to attend an appointment with wife Sarah who is due to give birth to their first child in mid-to-late December.

New Zealand said in a statement on Thursday that Williamson had returned to his hometown of Tauranga to attend a medical appointment with his wife but “at this stage he is still available for tomorrow’s test”.

Williamson said of impending fatherhood during the first test, when asked if he would miss national duties: “It’s sort of wait-and-see. It’s a very exciting time in anybody’s life and certainly in mine.

“We’re just going to cross that bridge when we can and see how things unfold, but very difficult to pre-plan.”

Also, after the innings and 134-run first test victory, coach Gary Stead said that the team supported Willaimson taking paternity leave.

Devon Conway has been called into the squad as batting cover if Williamson, who made his highest test score of 251 in the first test, does not return.
Meanwhile, coach Gary Stead is scheduled to address a news conference later on Thursday.
