Thane: Post-mortem confirms both langurs died of electrocution

CCTV grab of the site where the incident took place
THANE: The death of two langurs near Wagle Estate was been probed and the CCTV footage of the incident showed that they were electrocuted and not killed, confirmed the officials at the forest department on Wednesday.
Earlier, on Tuesday, a post-mortem that was done at Sanjay Gandhi National Park showed that the monkeys had suffered injuries on various parts of their body and were killed. However, during investigation on Wednesday, it was clear that the death was actually due to electrocution. “We began an investigation after we found assault marks on their bodies. We then came across the CCTV footage of the incident. The two langurs got electrocuted on an approximately 25ft long electric pole and were stuck on the wire,” said Rajendra Pawar range forest officer, Yeoor.
The children who saw the incident tried to rescue the langurs.
“The CCTV footage showed that some kids climbed an auto rickshaw and tried to save the monkeys using a wooden stick. While doing so the mammals fell, due to which they got injured. In order to ensure that the langurs were not eaten by dogs, the kids kept them in a 2-feet dry nullah,” added Pawar.
