The Commission on Concentration in the Media (KEK) has approved broadcasting of the new streaming service RTL.de Live. RTL Television had applied for approval of the new offering to the media authority in Lower Saxony (NLM). RTL Television plans to serve viewers by streaming the latest news and extended RTL programme formats on the internet.
The output will be shown in German exclusively online, in particular on the websites www.rtl.de, www.sport.de, TVNOW and social media channels. RTL Television will also show ten channels on nationwide television. The RTL Group and Bertelsmann achieved an audience share of 22.3 percent in the period from October 2019 to September 2020, with 5 percentage points for regional and third window programmes hosted on RTL Television channels. This means that the group has a 17.3 percent share of the audience, which is below the threshold for significant market power according to the media concentration law.
