Tripura CM's rally seeking public opinion for his continuation calls off

Agartala, Dec 10 (UNI) The ongoing tussle of power between Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and a large number of BJP MLAs over past few months taken bad shape after the party high command has rejected the proposed public meeting convened by CM on Dec 13 next to decide his popularity.
The BJP MLAs, ministers and senior party leaders had series of meetings following BJP central observer of Tripura Vinod Kumar Sonkar directed Chief Minister Deb to stop such meetings. Upset with the demand of his removal by a majority of his party MLAs from the post of CM and hundreds of BJP supporters had raised ‘Biplab Hatao.......’ slogan to Sonkar, Biplab convened a meeting to seek public opinion whether he will continue CM’s office that put the party in embarrassment.
According to party insiders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Saha and national president J P Nadda became angry with such unusual announcement by Tripura Chief Minister and asked Sonkar to stop such a program. Sonkar told media, "After hearing the announcement of Biplabji, I spoke to him and party chief Naddaji and asked him to cancel the rally. CM should serve the people of Tripura if there are any issues party will look into it."

A senior BJP leader on condition of anonymity said, “To save face, Biplab called meetings with BJP MLAs at his residence last evening to look for a way out but only 21 of 36 legislatures turned out in the meeting. However, most of them did not spell any opinion on the issue. Today, also five MLAs and five party leaders held a meeting with CM.”
After the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma told media, “The party's central leadership has asked the CM not to hold such a rally. Moreover, during the meeting, we all requested him to call off the program, as it is not required. The Chief Minister has agreed to our proposal and hence, the meeting for getting public opinion has been cancelled.”
Dev Varma refused to make any comment whether CM enjoys the confidence of majority MLAs and whether the meetings of MLAs with CM was to show his strength informally to the central leadership.
However, a senior MLA after attending a meeting with CM today said Biplab Kumar Deb has to go for floor test soon, as he lost the support of majority MLAs and the matter has been convened to Delhi.
