Czechia-based internet company Seznam.cz has asked Google to pay CZK 9.072 billion in compensation for the damage caused to Seznam as a result of limited competition in the field of general internet search services. The company claims Google abused its dominant position in the market for licensed OS for smart mobile devices and applications for mobile devices with the Android OS. Seznam grounded its requirement on a decision from the European Commission confirming that Google infringed European Union competition law.
Pavel Zima, the deputy chairman of the management board of Seznam.cz, said that the amount of CZK 9.072 billion that the company is now claiming was estimated by foreign economic experts for 2011-2018.
Seznam.cz works in the field of general search services, internet advertising services, advertising monetization, as well as aggregation and presentation of media content. In 2019, it recorded revenues of CZK 4.69 billion. The company's current market share for general search services is currentlyl estimated at 25 percent.
Google received a pre-litigation request with a 30-day payment deadline. After expiration, Seznam.cz will be ready to start enforcement through the courts.
