'So-called' farm laws not in favour of HP farmers: HKS

By Mohan Lal Verma
Shimla, Dec 9 (UNI) The Union Government's 'so-called' three farms laws have nothing to do with the ground reality of the state, as they would not help in improving the income of farmers, the Himachal Pradesh Kisan Sabha said here on Wednesday.
Talking to UNI, state President of HKS Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said it was unfortunate that the Union Government and it's counterpart in the state were trying to mislead the common man about the benefits of the 'so-called' farms laws, which would not yield any benefits to the ryots of the hill state.
Three Central laws hardly put any positive impact to improve the conditions and income of distress in the agrarian sectors, the HKSstate chief noted.
He said that currently, the state produced about 17.50 lakh metric tonne vegetables (off season) and species and only 15-16 lakh metric tonne of food grain and cereals, including pulses and oilseed per annum.
Beside this, the state produced temperate fruits, mostly pome fruits to the tune of average in between six to seven lakh metric tonne per year, however, this production goes up to 10 lakh metric tonnes.
The accumulated production of foodgrain, vegetables and fruits comes to around 35 lakh MT to 40 lakh MT.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) was being provided by the Food Corporation of India for about 23 items. However, only three items were being produced in the state, which fall under its ambit.
These include Maize, Paddy and Wheat. In fact, only wheat falls under the MSP as FCI did not procure Maize and Paddy in the state as Maize is a surplus foodgrain, he added.
