Adilabad: Ethnic tribes or Adivasis demanded deletion of Lambada community from the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST) on Wednesday, when Tudum Debba, a tribal rights organization, organised a rasta roko in Utnoor mandal centre.
Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the organisation wanted the removal of Lambadas from STs, stating that successive governments had shown negligence in protecting laws meant for the uplift of aboriginal tribaals and were supporting the Lambada community which was responsible for the backwardness of ethnic tribes.
The agitating tribals said they requested the government to focus on welfare of the tribals three years back, but it had not taken steps to resolve their issues. They warned that they would intensify the agitation if the government failed to address their issue.
Some of their major demands included deletion of Lambadas from STs, issuance of Pattas or registration certificates to forest lands being tilled by tribals, revival of the government order 3, amending new ROR Act and identification of non-agency regions. They recalled that it had been three years since they had conducted a massive meeting over these demands at Saroornagar in Hyderabad.
Similar protests were witnessed in Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal and Mancherial districts.
