Adtran has announced that Community Telecom Services (CTS) has selected Adtran’s Total Access 5000 (TA5000) fibre access platform to deploy fibre broadband services to previously underserved communities in rural Kentucky. CTS is now able to connect hundreds of students caught on the wrong side of the digital divide, without access to broadband, enabling them to participate in remote study.
CTS is a public utility owned by the city of Monticello and Wayne County. It serves 3,300 subscribers located near the edge of the Appalachian Mountains. CTS selected Adtran's TA5000 platform to replace legacy Huawei network equipment. The service provider is leveraging Adtran’s GPON technology to meet community needs and it has the ability to introduce XGS-PON standalone or via Adtran’s Combo PON on the same platform when it needs to increase bandwidth further.
