The University of Utah women’s basketball team may be a bit of an unknown this early in the season, but we learned about their resolve on Tuesday evening.

With the Utes still fresh off a COVID-19 stoppage that delayed the start of their season, they registered a shocker Tuesday evening, defeating No. 15 Oregon State in Corvallis, 85-79.

The win comes after Utah got rolled in its season-opener on Sunday afternoon, 85-43, at then-No. 10 Oregon. The Utes had not beaten an opponent ranked as high as the Beavers since beating No. 6 Stanford during the 2018-19 season. This is Utah’s first road win over a top-25 team since winning at No. 19 Arizona State on Jan. 19, 2018.

Sophomore guard Brynna Maxwell, an All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection last winter, scored a game-high 34 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field, 4-for-7 from 3-point range and 10-for-10 from the foul line.
