VJ Chitra dead: VJ Chitra was on Wednesday found dead in a room at a hotel in Chennai's Nazrathpet.

Popular Tamil TV star VJ Chitra was on Wednesday found dead in a room at a hotel in Chennai’s Nazrathpet. She was 29.

Nazrathpet police have registered a case and are inquiring into the matter. A police official from Nazrathpet station told indianexpress.com, “Around 2:30-2:45 am today, the hotel manager called the police helpline number (100) informing about the incident. Based on that information, we immediately reached the hotel. The body was recovered and sent to Kilpauk government hospital for post-mortem. We are ascertaining the cause of death.”

It is worth noting that VJ Chitra had got engaged to businessman Hemanth a few months ago. He was also the last person to have spoken with Chitra before her alleged suicide.

Chitra’s tragic death has sent a shock wave across the Tamil entertainment industry. Fans and celebrities took to Twitter to mourn her demise.

Vada Chennai actor Aishwarya Rajesh tweeted, “Deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the death of actress #Chitra. A very promising and gifted artiste who has gone too soon! People must realise that suicide is not a solution to problems and as a society, we need to emphasize this fact more strongly than ever before!”

“Deeply saddened hearing this news. What’s the silence in ur death, you are such a brave girl but why this decision. If you were brave enough to face the death then you should have been brave enough to face the life journey also. Very upset #RIPChitra.” television personality Ammu Ramachandran said via Twitter.

Master actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj also shared a similar sentiment. “Time n again we talk about this Life is too precious to end it. I really wish she spoke out to someone before deciding to end her life Wtv the WAR u are fighting within, pls speak it out, it DEFINITELY HELPS… a second is more than enuf to change a decision (sic),” he wrote on his Twitter page.

VJ Chitra was at the top of her career as a television host and actor. She began her career in television in 2012 with a show called Vilayadu Vaagai Soodu, which aired on Makkal TV. Chitra also hosted popular shows like Nodiku Nodi Athiradi and Oor Suthalaam Vaanga for the same channel. In a career spanning nearly a decade, she worked with various Tamil entertainment channels, including Zee Tamil, before joining Star Vijay.

VJ Chitra was particularly popular among Star Vijay viewers, with her turn as Mullai Kathiravan aka Mullai in the serial Pandian Stores garnering much praise. She was also hosting a show called Vasool Vettai for the channel.
