Slovenia's Agency for Communications Networks and Services (Akos) launched a public tender for allocation of frequencies for the provision of business-critical M2M services through dedicated networks in the 700 MHz frequency band. The invitation is for wireless links to transmit information between physical or virtual units that make up a complex ecosystem, including IoT. Interested bidders have until 13 January 2021 to submit their applications, and an auction is expected to take place in February.
The winning operator will have to build a dedicated network that covers at least 10 percent of the Slovenian territory, for users of business critical communications or for industries such as transport and energy which require high network reliability but do not need high transmission speeds. Additional coverage targets apply in the period to 2030.
Akos noted that the tender is question will not award frequencies for commercial mobile services or public safety networks, as separate tenders will be announced for these applications.
