Tata Altroz Turbo DCT Transmission Details Revealed Ahead Of Launch: Will Rival Hyundai i20 Turbo
Tata Motors will be launching a new powerful variant of the Altroz hatchback in the market. The premium hatchback will be receiving a new turbo-petrol engine from the company and is expected to arrive sometime next year.

According to the latest report from Autocar India, the company will be using a dry-clutch (DCT) Dual-Clutch Transmission in the upcoming Altroz Turbo. The DCT will be sourced from the Punch Powertrain.

The gear shifter for the DCT Transmission will be supplied by Lumax. The report also reveals that certain components for the Punch Powertrain's DCT gearbox will be supplied by the German manufacturer Schaeffler.

With the addition of a wet-clutch DCT transmission, the premium hatchback will become heavier than the standard variant. It is expected to tip the scale at 1,058kgs — 22kg heavier than the standard model. However, the increase in weight is expected to be covered by the all-new turbo-petrol engine along with the DCT transmission.

The company had already showcased the Altroz Turbo at the 2019 Geneva Motorshow. At the time of showcase, the company reported that it will be powered by a 1.2-litre engine producing 100bhp of power and 140Nm of torque.
However, the latest report suggests that the Altroz's turbo engine will be producing around 108bhp of maximum power. The torque figure is yet to be revealed and expected to be more than 140Nm, which was quoted by the company during the Altroz Turbo showcase last year.

The upcoming performance variant of the Altroz premium hatchback is expected to be called the ‘iturbo'. We expect Tata Motors to make some more changes to the exterior and interiors of the Altroz iturbo, which will be revealed at the time of its launch. However, most of its features will be borrowed from the standard model.

The standard hatchback model features LED DRLs, LED taillights, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also features a flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls.

Tata Motors is currently offering the Altroz in two engine options: the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 113Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit that puts out 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. Engines come mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission, with no automatic transmission on offer.

Thoughts About The Tata Altroz Turbo's Wet Clutch DCT From Schaeffler
Tata Motors is looking to pack the upcoming performance premium hatchback variant with top-spec components, which will help deliver maximum performance from the engine. Once launched, the Altroz turbo variant will rival the Hyundai i20 turbo and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI in the Indian market.
