GREATER NOIDA: At least three men were injured in a clash between villagers and some “baraatis” of a marriage procession in the Jhalda village of Greater Noida on Monday night. Police have booked as many as 21 people in connection with the incident.
The clash happened when the marriage procession of the groom Amit Prajapati reached the Jhalda village. The groom’s side has alleged that as soon as they started to play music for beginning of the rituals at the spot, some villagers objected to it saying that it was scaring their buffaloes.
“We checked but there were no buffaloes around. While they allowed the music to be played, later, they brought some youths who broke the windows of our car and toppled it,” Mukesh, father of the groom, told TOI.
However, police said that some locals, led by Puneet, and the baraatis fought with each other under the influence of alcohol while dancing. During the clash, three persons from the groom’s side suffered injuries, including Manish who lost two teeth.
As many as 21 people, including Puneet, have been booked by police under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with armed weapons), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 427 (mischief causing damage).
