Ladies! winter is here and like every year, this year too, it brings along a whole lot of frizziness to our hair. This year it feel all the more frizzier because most of us are trying to step out for a long long relaxing spas.Frizzy hair basically means lifted cuticles which leads the open strands to absorb more moisture and swell. This causes more hair fall and breakage. Pooja Banga, a specialist in the field of diet and nutrition suggests a few tips to deal with frizzy hair this winter.
Avoid frequent hair wash
To tackle the extraction of natural oils from your hair, do not over wash. Make sure to wash maximum three times a week. It will keep the scalp clean without drying it out.
Use minimal heat
The main reason behind the frizzy and dry hair is excessive heat treatment. Blow drying, curling or strengthening certainly make the hair look good temporarily but extracts the moisture completely in the process. Even if you are using heat treatment, make sure to apply heat protectant on wet hair and keep the temperature below 200 degree.
Choose the right hair products
Choose the products wisely based on your hair type to make the most of them. Ditching the chemically loaded products, go for avocado, coconut oil, Shea butter, Jojoba oil-based products. They will retain the natural oils in the scalp.
Cut down sulfate and alcohol based products
Alcohol makes the hair dry by extracting the natural oils from scalp and sulfate lifts the hair cuticles which lead to extreme frizz. Instead of products with sulfate and alcohol, use herbal oil or glycerin based products to restore the moisture to your scalp.
Take cold shower
Washing your hair with cold water improves the blood circulation, prevents hair fall and locks the moisture inside. If you find it difficult to wash hair with cold water in winter, make sure you wash the hair with cold water after shampooing and conditioning. It will seal the cuticles and make the hair frizz-free for the entire day.
Always apply leave-in conditioners
Every time after shampooing your hair, apply leave-in conditioners on the wet hair. It will help to lock the moisture and protect the hair at the time of styling. Choose the right conditioner for your hair based on your hair type and requirements. For extremely frizzy hair opt for oil-based conditioners.
Ditch towel drying
Instead of rough towels, try to dry your hair with your old cotton t-shirts. It will fight the frizz and also will protect the cuticles. Squeeze the excess water from your hair and apply some smoothing hair oils to the tip. Leave your hair to dry naturally to protect the shine.
