Escaped accused arrested

Kakching, December 08 2020: Kakching District Police arrested Oinam Nanao Singh (29) s/o (L) O Maipak of Tronglaobi Mamang Leikai again on December 5 at around 7 pm after he escaped from the police lockup earlier.

Oinam Nanao was arrested on the intervening night of December 4 and 5 on charge of sexually assaulting a minor and was requisitioned to be kept at Waikhong Police Station by the Officer-in-charge of Sugnu Police Station as there was probability of the victim's villagers attacking the Police Station, said the statement released by Kakching Police.

The villagers from the victim's village had earlier caught the accused person and had also attacked the police team which had gone to arrest the accused, added the statement.

The escape of the accused came to light when OC of Sugnu Police Station went to pick him up for further formalities, and a frantic search was launched immediately and the accused was found hiding beneath a stack of straws in one of the fields at Tejpur Awang Loukol, said the police.

The police thanked everyone who helped them by providing crucial information and assistance in tracing the accused and later rewards and citations were handed over to them as a token of gratitude and appreciation by Kakching Police.
