Fog engulfs Gurgaon, minimum temperature recorded at 10.5°C

Gurgaon: Residents woke up to a foggy morning on Tuesday with the minimum temperature being recorded at 10.5 degrees Celsius and maximum at 28 degrees Celsius. City’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday with the air quality index (AQI) being recorded at 347.
As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the AQI improved marginally from Monday, when it was recorded at 357, owing to north-westerly winds.
With AQI at 347, Gurgaon was also the least polluted city in NCR, followed by Faridabad at 382 and Delhi at 383. The air quality in other NCR cities was in the “Severe” category with Greater Noida at 405, Noida at 407 and Ghaziabad at 424. Met officials said fog formation, calm winds and low boundary layer height were main factors behind ‘very poor’ air quality.
“The situation in city is better than other NCR cities as we are continuously monitoring the situation and implementing measures in coordination with the local civic bodies to prevent air pollution,” said Shakti Singh, Regional Officer in HSPCB.
Three of the four monitoring stations —Gwalpahari, Vikas Sadan, and Sector 51 — recorded the AQI in ‘very poor’ category. At Gwalpahari the AQI was recorded at 350, at Vikas Sadan it was 371 and 320 at Sector 51 monitoring station.
According to SAFAR, 211 farm fires were observed in neighbouring states but the share of stubble burning to Delhi’s PM2.5 was negligible.
