Elisa said it is the first Finnish operator to open a 5G network in Savonlinna, starting in the city centre, Heikinpohja, Olavinlinna, Kyronniemi, Talvisalo and Poukkusilla. Savonlinna is a candidate for the European Capital of Culture for 2026. The region is home to technology and forestry companies, and its proximity to Russia creates opportunities for business and tourism.
Savonlinna's location in the middle of Lake Saimaa is an attraction that, together with good telecommunications connections, creates unparalleled opportunities for teleworking, says Kari Raatikainen, information management head at the City of Savonlinna.
Savonlinna is the site of Elisa's 60th 5G network, which now serves more than 1.80 million Finns.
