Breakdancing is now officially an Olympic sport for Paris, 2024 after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed it on Monday. The games' approach of luring younger audiences' interest towards games meant that the street dancing form was one of the four sports added to the Paris Olympics, 2024.
Along with breakdancing, IOC also added, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing being the other three.
These three, however, will debut at the Tokyo Olympics which now will be held in 2021, after they were postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Breakdancing will be called 'Breaking' at the event, which it was called in the 1970s in the United States by hip-hop artists.
A dance form becoming a part of a sporting event was a surprise to everyone and it did invite some hilarious reactions from the users on Twitter.
Netizens, while expressing their surprise, said if breakdance could have been included, why not more classical dance forms like contemporary or ballet.
While, many cricticised the move saying they could have instead included Squash, a sport which still has been waiting for its Olympics qualification for a long time.
Here are some of the reactions:

I’m sorry what!!! There is no other dancing in the Olympics, why this style? What about Ballet, tap, contemporary, hip hop, ballroom, jazz - why such a niche dance style as breakdancing!

So squash played by millions and requiring high levels of fitness and skill can't get in but breakdancing can. Who decides this and can we get THEM drug tested?

Points given based on ‘artistic’ content and the subjective opinion of judges? That excludes it from being an actual sport.
