Odisha: No UG, PG exams to be held before resumption of offline classes

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department of the state on Monday announced that it will not conduct any undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) examinations before resumption of physical mode of teaching and completion of syllabus by such physical mode of teaching.
Department secretary Saswat Mishra said this in a letter to vice-chancellors of state public universities and principals of government and non-government colleges functioning under the higher education department.
He said the academic session has been badly affected due to prevailing Covid-19 pandemic related dislocation. "Though online teaching is continuing, most of the students are unable to get the benefits of such online teaching due to various reasons. Therefore, at present, it is not desirable to hold examination basing only on online teaching," said Mishra in the letter.
Mishra said conduct of examination should be considered only after resumption of physical mode of teaching.
It is seen that many students are facing difficulties to attend the online classes due to poor internet speed and lack of online infrastructure with students. Students in rural areas sometimes go to hilltops or atop the tree to get internet speed. Sources said many college students fail to attend the online classes.
