  • Zane Kilian, the man charged with murdering police detective Charl Kinnear, is in isolation after a cellmate showed Covid-19 symptoms.
  • Kilian has been in custody for two months after multiple delays to a formal bail application.
  • He is also an accused in another case, the attempted shooting of Cape Town lawyer William Booth.

Private investigator Zane Kilian, the man accused of the murder of top cop Charl Kinnear, is in isolation after one of his cellmates showed symptoms of Covid-19.

Kilian had been scheduled to appear in the Bellville Regional Court in Cape Town on Tuesday for a formal bail application more than two months after his arrest.

The case was, however, postponed in absentia, with prosecutor Greg Wolmarans explaining one of the prisoners in Kilian's cell group had showed coronavirus symptoms and had been sent for testing.

The result was expected by Thursday.

Should the man test positive, Kilian and the rest of the cell group would go into quarantine for 10 days.

Should the prisoner test negative, Kilian would be back in the dock on 15 December for his bail application.

Last week, proceedings were postponed as Wolmarans had been isolating after being in contact with a colleague who had tested positive.

Kilian has been in custody since his arrest days after Kinnear was shot dead in his car outside his home in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, on 18 September.

Killian's lawyer previously said his client was fetching medicine at a pharmacy at the time of Kinnear's murder.

This was after it was found that Kinnear's phone had been secretly tracked or "pinged".

In a separate case, Killian also faces a charge of attempted murder alongside Kauther Brown, Kim Smith, Ibrahim Deare and Riyaad Gasant for a shooting at the Cape Town home of defence lawyer William Booth in April.
