Here’s our list of at least 90 Utah schools that have had a COVID-19 outbreak or closed as a precaution

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) American Fork High cheerleaders wear masks at their school before the start of a football game against Copper Hills High on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020. Both American Fork High and Copper Hills High have experienced multiple COVID-19 outbreaks this year.

Editor’s note: The Salt Lake Tribune will continue to update this list.

So far this fall, at least 78 schools in Utah have had a coronavirus outbreak — and 12 others have shifted online early to avoid one.

Those 90 have all come in a span of roughly three months after most districts in the state reopened in August at the encouragement of the governor. What’s followed has been a lesson in what can happen when students return to the classroom before COVID-19 is under control.

Most of the schools with outbreaks have been high schools, with 57 total. And 23 of those have had more than one outbreak, spurring them to close and reopen and sometimes close again when they hit 15 cases, which the state recommends should trigger a two-week shift to online instruction.

Take a look at the list that The Salt Lake Tribune has compiled. And let us know if your school is missing by emailing ctanner@sltrib.com.
