Is it a Huge Risk for a Growing Tech Company to Go Without Testing Support?

As a growing tech company, most of your risks are bound to be intangible. While you can physically oversee the processes of making a tangible product, there isn’t much you can do when it comes to codes and other pipelines.

In that case, is it really worth taking the risk and going without testing support? Is it fair to proceed with your business ventures in the software front without seeing what the finished product looks like? Is it a huge risk for a tech company to go without a testing team? Let’s assess the use-cases.

Case 1: Online Shopping Models

With most folks finding comfort from the corners of the room and on their couch, shopping has become an online affair. Be it looking for the best coffee that one can get, to something more substantial, like a book—shopping has become an online affair.

In this regard, if you have an online shopping model with no valid testing before launch, you are in for an imminent demise. Be it due to security lapses, or not double-checking the usability of the app altogether, online shopping models without testing support is simply detrimental.

It is a fact that with the increase in online conveniences come its associated vices. Things like scams and lapses in transactions, or inefficiency in delivery times have a lot to do with unfinished software, or ones that have been passed without testing support.

Is the idea of daily supplies reaching your customer’s doorsteps without any hassle important to you? In that case, testing support is rather important to provide finished products.

Case 2: Software Solutions

If you are running one of those businesses whose premise runs on software solutions, testing support is as important as setting up the business altogether.

Think about it, the importance of PR in the modern world that is trying to sell ideas online is astronomical. In these cases, if you are setting up, say, social media solutions for the said body, you ought to test your solutions.

The other important aspect of software solutions is bugs. You need to understand that even the greatest of tech giants have their flaws and imperfections in the form of software, mostly lying as bugs. Be it software patches or any other general fixes, bugs are practically impossible to mitigate without testing support.

Think of it this way. Say your software solution has an app too. This is bound to have a few bugs and overall security gaps that could otherwise be breached. You can use a bug reporting tool like Shake to see and assess these lapses, if not use your inherent solutions altogether. The point here is that using testing support to identify, locate, and possibly mitigate these lapses is quintessential.

What you can absolutely not afford to do is to leave it to chance and risk it. Software breaches and bugs are a real pain to solve if not identified in time, and if you do not have testing support to bypass these issues, it might be fatal for your growing business.

Case 3: Hardware-Software Linkage

While the aforementioned ideas had very little inclusion of software per se, most tech businesses have some direct implementation surrounding hardware. Be it electronic devices and appliances, to something as mobile as automobiles, software-hardware implementations are the hardest to pull off without testing support.

In fact, the basic premise of tech giants in automobiles and mobiles is the fact that there should be a union of hardware and software, almost like a successful symbiosis. Reflect on this—in cases of mobiles, Apple is the leading company that boasts hardware-software unison.

The reason is simple. Apple is famous (or infamous) for trying and testing software solutions at least an unfathomable amount of times before launching into mainstream consumer forums. Be it an innovative software upgrade or just a small bloat fix, they test it out to minimize, if not eliminate risk altogether.

The same is the case with Tesla, another tech giant. With their automobiles being semi-automated, they most definitely need to get a lot of autopilot features right, considering how, quite literally, life-threatening the ramifications can be. Imagine what would have happened if not for the incessant testing support.

The Bottomline

Sure, you might have some other business related to tech, which, perhaps isn’t as software-oriented. What you fail to realize is that irrespective of what hardware solutions you plan on providing, without the most basic of software, it is not bound to work as you intend it to.

The question now stands is that, do you think it is worth taking the risk of such lapses in order to get short-term benefits? Are you willing to risk your business, hardware, software or otherwise, by not getting enough testing support?

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration

The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.

Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.

Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.

The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.

With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?

PacketLight's next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
