Some Covid-19 vaccine may get licensed in next few weeks: Health Secy

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) India on Tuesday announced that some of the Covid-19 vaccine candidates may get licensed in the next few weeks.

Making this major announcement, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan told reporters here that Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech have already applied for emergency use approval.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has interacted with all vaccine manufactures and scientists. There are six vaccine candidates in clinical trial stage in India," he said.

Preparatory activities for the rollout of the vaccine were being carried out by the Central government in collaboration with states and UTs.

The announcement comes on the same day when Britain launched its mass Covid vaccination programme.
