Intra-District bus service launched

Imphal, December 07 2020: Giving a new and affordable dimension of public transport to people residing in far-flung and interior areas of Churachandpur district, Transport Minister Vungzagin Valte flagged off Manipur State Transport (MST) passenger bus service which will be operational on three new routes within the district at the District Transport Office, Churachandpur today.

The newly inducted 31-seater buses will operate on Lamka-Bukpi, Lamka-Sangaikot and Lamka-Behiang routes.

The Minister also inspected District Transport Office.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony which was organised by the Transport Department, Vungzagin Valte said the bus service was introduced with a noble intention to solve the inconveniences faced by people residing in the far-flung and interior areas of the district.

He, at the same time, observed that Chief Minister N Biren with his inspirational leadership has brought about remarkable changes not only in the developmental narratives of the State but also in creating positive temperament among the people.

The Transport Minister further stated that the DTO building would be renovated and converted into district bus terminal in the future.

New bus depots will be built in the DTO campus and at the destination villages.

The Minister urged the public not to give unnecessary harassments that may discourage the drivers and handymen but show them love and respect for their service.

He also clarified that the DTO was not functional in the past due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the matter has been addressed.

MLA of Singnat A/C Ginsuanhau Zou, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport), Paulunthang Vaiphei and Director (Transport), Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.

Joint Director (Transport) Laishram Delina Devi, DC Churachandpur Pawan Yadav, DC Pherzawl Mannuamching and other district level officers also attended the event.
