Mexican operator Vasanta, one of the first MNVOs to launch on the country’s ‘Red Compartida’ wholesale 4.5G shared network, has begun offering a new low-cost plan with 100GB of data for an initial MXN 350 (around USD 17), reports website Xataka. The bundle for data-hungry users is valid for 30 days and also comes with 10,000 minutes of calls to numbers in Mexico, the US and Canada plus 10,000 SMS. New and existing users can subscribe to the offer at the launch price until 15 January 2021, when it rises to MXN 499.
MVNOs reached around 2.85 million lines at the end of the third quarter of 2020, accounting for 2.3 percent of the Mexican mobile market compared to 1.4 percent a year earlier, according to a recent report.
In April the Red Compartida network covered around 60 million people, equivalent to 53.5 percent of the country, according to the Altan Redes consortium that’s rolling out the infrastructure.
