Online payment platform PayPal has been accused by UK consumer group Which? of failing fraud victims.
PayPal holds a banking licence and is signed up to the Financial Ombudsman Services, but users do not have the same protections as users of other financial services. PayPal has not joined the voluntary code for authorised push payments, through which bands reimburse customers who have fallen victim to scams.
Which? is calling on the UK Government to use the end of the Brexit transition period to tighten protections for online payments and fraud victims, with strong protection in place regardless of payment method.
