MOHALI: Farmers and political parties have declared to block national highways at two major entry and exit points to the district at Kharar bus stand and Ambala road at Lalru from 11am to 4pm on Bharat bandh on Tuesday.
Petrol pumps and shops are likely to be closed.
Vineet Verma, president, Mohali Beopar Mandal, said, “We have decided to close all shops in Mohali on Tuesday in support of farmers. Only chemists will be open.” “The food producers of the country must get support from all of us as their bread-butter is in danger,” he said.
Petrol pumps will be closed from 11am to 4pm. Ashwinder Mongia, former president, Mohali Petrol Dealers Association, said, “We have decided to close all petrol pumps in Mohali in support of farmers’ Bharat bandh call.”
Deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan said instructions have been issued to sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) to be on their toes and deploy administrative staff to help police in maintaining law and order. Dayalan said, “The plan is to not cause any inconvenience to public without obstructing peaceful protests, if any. Police and civil officers will coordinate crowd management. Executive magistrates and special executive magistrates will be deployed to assist SDMs. Fire brigades and Ambulances will be deployed at strategic points in coordination with area SDMs.”
