LUCKNOW: Calling an environment-friendly mode of transport the need of the hour for a city like Agra, chief minister Yogi Adityanath thanked the Prime Minister for inaugurating the construction of the Metro in the historic city on Monday.
Calling it a landmark day for the state, the CM said that an ancient city like Agra was moving towards a new era, led by the PM who inaugurated the Metro corporation’s project.

“Agra and its people are heading towards a new era. Agra has a population of 26 lakh but each year, lakhs of international and national tourists visit it. As per the needs of today, an environment-friendly public transport was needed but we were facing many hurdles. Even the Supreme Court had expressed worry over the absence of a sustainable system,” the CM said, thanking the PM for having made tremendous efforts over the past six years for the spread of Metro rail services across the country.
As a result of that, the CM said, UP had successful Metro services in Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Lucknow while work was ongoing in Kanpur.
“It is an honour for us that the PM is inaugurating the Agra Metro. It is also a matter of pride for us that during the Covid pandemic, not only were we successful in implementing schemes for the poor and youth but also started infrastructure development for Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the CM said.
He also congratulated the PM for his guidance because of which Invest India was declared the winner of the United Nations Investment Promotion Award 2020 by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development on Monday. He said that the PM had promoted new India as an investmentfriendly destination with ease of doing business, adding that Invest India has partnered with Invest UP, the organization which promotes investment in the state.
