Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin Construction Halted Due To Sleeping Snakes

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) is building Gigafactory Berlin, its first vehicle factory in Europe. The construction has not been without a few complications.

Last week, Tesla was denied a tree clearing permit when looking to move to the next steps of the construction process. And now it looks like the company faces another setback.

According to The Guardian, a group of activists have won an injunction over threats to the habitats of lizards and snakes, forcing Tesla to suspend all tree clearing.

Tesla faced opposition from two nature conservation groups that launched a court action against the felling of 205 acres of pine trees for the factory. The delay could threaten Tesla's July 2021 goal for the first vehicle assembly at the site.

Tesla said the land needed be cleared to allow for pipelines and storage. CEO Elon Musk has said the company will plant three trees for everyone one removed.
