KALYAN: Six persons were arrested for allegedly killing a 38-year-old man after a dispute on Monday night at Manpada in Dombivli (E). The accused, after manhandling him, allegedly ran their car over him, killing him. Rohit Gurav, Nikhil Sawant, Vinay Lanka, Ninad and two others, under the influence of alcohol, also assaulted his friend.
Shashank Mahajan works in a private Mumbai company and stays in Dombivli. His friend, Tinakin Kulkarni, who suffered injuries, was admitted to hospital.
Mahajan was partying with Kulkarni in a hotel, when the six aged 25-35, seated at the next table, got into a quarrel over a minor issue. Police said Mahajan later left for Gharda Circle, where the accused chased him back and started assaulting him. They then ran their car over Mahajan and escaped.
Passers-by later rushed Mahajan and his friend to Shastri Nagar hospital, where doctors declared Mahajan dead.
Senior inspector of Manpada police station D K Choure said a primary probe revealed that a dispute over table led to the fight.
CCTV footage at the hotel helped police identify the six.
