Bharat Bandh evokes good response in Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 8 (UNI) The Bharat Bandh called by farmers' unions to protest against the three contentious farm laws evoked good response and was peaceful in Telangana on Tuesday.

Most bigger business establishments like malls remained closed while in some parts smaller shops were doing business as usual.

The roads were devoid of the regular traffic owning to the bandh which is being supported by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and 20-odd other political parties besides employees and students organizations.

The state road transport corporation buses were off the roads as the RTC buses were confined to the depots.

Ministers and TRS leaders participated in massive tractor and bike rallies taken out in different parts of the state and as a result traffic on National Highways was affected.

Left parties and employees Organizations also took rallies and staged dharnas in support of the agitating farmers.

The Osmania University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)postponed the examinations scheduled for December 8 in view of the Bharat Bandh.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has appealed to a cross section of the people to participate in the bandh to express solidarity with the agitating farmers.
